| Answers to Frequently Asked Questions |
NanoCool is a subsidiary of NanoPore Incorporated focussed on the commercialization of cooling technology for cold chain applications.
NanoPore, Inc. was founded in 1993 with the purpose of commercializing high porosity/high surface area materials for a wide range of applications, including adsorption, gas separation, advanced thermal insulation, low-K dielectrics and optics. NanoPore currently has research and development and manufacturing activities in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
What is the NanoCool Packaging Technology and how is it different than what I already use?
NanoCool is a patented, new controlled-temperature packaging system for shipping sensitive products that require a 2 – 8 °C environment at all times. The NanoCool packaging technology uses a special cooling device to evaporate water over time, maintaining the temperature of your shipped goods. NanoCool currently has five patents with others pending. Its on-demand cooling design eliminates the need for ice packs and reduces the cost to ship because controlled-temperature packages are smaller, lighter and easier to pack out. Freight savings and distribution efficiencies are achieved throughout the supply chain.
How long does it take the NanoCool evaporator to cool down to a refrigerated temperature?
The evaporator area of the NanoCool shipping system will typically cool from ambient to 4 °C in less than five minutes.
Is the NanoCool cooling device reusable?
The NanoCool cooling device is currently designed for one time use; however, the insulated shipping container can be reused. You will need to order a replacement cooling device for the shipping container.
How do you dispose of the NanoCool cooling device?
All components of the NanoCool shipping system are made from benign materials that have no unordinary disposal rating. Our product data sheet has more details on our components and how to dispose of them. Please contact your NanoCool sales representative for a copy of our product data sheet.
How can I tell if it is cooling?
Around 20 seconds after activating the device, as the unit starts to cool, a thermal-chromic ink label on the NanoCool evaporator surface begins turning blue to indicate the device is working.
Can I order custom-sized NanoCool packages?
Yes, NanoCool systems can be custom designed to meet your needs. Talk with your sales representative for more information.
How do I activate the NanoCool cooling device?
One of the great features of the NanoCool controlled-temperature packaging system is its on-demand capability. Simply by pushing the actuator button, the system starts to cool – no need for ice packs, freezers or pre-freezing. Pack-outs have never been easier!
